"Full house" in Benenden

“Full house” in Benenden – all the students and teachers are on site today. It is a day without excursions or sightseeing. The students concentrate on their lessons in the morning. Afternoon lessons follow after lunch and then the activities and workshops begin. Very interesting this year: the workshop on “English cooking” awakened the interest of many male students. Muffins and apple crumble are only two of the delicious treats that were made by the cooking team.

Meanwhile, the famous “Benenden ghost run” was being prepared. The students must brave a “walk through the forest”, clearing some obstacles and undergrowth as they go. Costumes are worn and the story of Kitty Fisher and her imperious husband, John Norris is presented as a stage play. The show begins at 8.40 pm. Karo, Leighton and Jon prove to be the perfect cast for a play like this. Leighton is a teacher and an actor; Jon, also a teacher, is a creative and literate person and Karo of the activity team is a teacher with stage experience. The younger students are the first to be sent on the ghost run while there is still some daylight. The path is marked with lights and teachers are stationed at the most important and exposed areas to ensure discipline and safety. The students are sent out in groups of four at intervals of about one and a half minutes. The run is well organized and goes smoothly and you can hear the screams in the distance, followed by loud laughter. It seems to have gone very well.
