Medieval festival at Bodiam Castle

After the usual lessons in the morning, TU1 and TU2 make their way to the medieval festival at Bodiam Castle. Bodiam Castle was built by Sir Edward Dalyngrugge in the 14th century and is captivating because of its construction in the middle of a romantic pond. We have chosen quite deliberately to visit during the “medieval weekend” – this weekend, English history is brought back to life here. Many medieval games have been set up for children to join in and of course trying on a knight’s armor is a must.

The absolute highlight is the jousting! Even today there are official knights’ championships every year in England, where the nation’s best compete. It is a spectacle when some lances break like you have only seen in films. The students watch the tournament with open mouths and are clearly thrilled – it definitely is a must-see. Back home at Benenden, the older students of TU3 and TU4 have been actively taking part in workshops and activities. The karaoke night is also a big success. Same as every year, unbelievable singing talents present themselves at Benenden and the mood is brilliant! By popular demand, there will have to be a second karaoke evening this year!
