The first day

Now we are all here – we are ready to start. Everybody meets in the assembly hall at 8.30 am. The students are divided into their groups, the scripts, diary exercise books and pens are collected and then lessons begin. After lunch it is time for the first excursion. In Rye, a small medieval town, you learn everything about local history at the Rye Town Model and from the church tower you have a fantastic view of the sea. Then at last there is free time for shopping on Main Street. Everyone is back at Benenden in time for dinner. What will the “welcome show” in the evening be like? Of course: a brief performance by the activity team and an introduction to the Benenden staff members. All staff members, teachers, office-team, kitchen and service-team members, bus drivers and, last but not least, the “heads of Benenden” are called on by name to rapturous applause. Don’t forget: this year, too, there will be a Benenden dance where everyone takes part. The activity team and the teachers take the lead. A perfect start to the summer course.
